The Notorious OB — Order Block Indicator

Built on three ideas our Learn guides explain in full — liquidity sweeps, order blocks and fair value gaps. A dotted line flags each setup as it forms, and the arrow prints only once your chart confirms it, on a closed bar.

The gap

Where order-block setups go wrong

The concepts are not the hard part. Applying them consistently, on time, without second-guessing every zone is.

The problem

  • Too many order blocks: if any candle before a move counts, the chart fills with zones.
  • The break you took was the liquidity sweep itself — price pierced the level, then reversed.
  • Chart clutter hides the one zone that actually matters.
  • The setup completed on a bar close you were not watching.

How The Notorious OB helps

  • Zones on the chart. Order blocks and fair value gaps are mapped on the structure timeframe you choose, with their midlines.
  • Built around the sweep. A setup starts from a liquidity sweep — the stop run our guide takes apart step by step. The concepts are public; the precise rules the indicator applies are not published.
  • Armed, not triggered. A dotted line, labelled Buy armed or Sell armed, marks the setup while it forms — no arrow yet.
  • Confirmation on your chart. The arrow prints only once a confirmation pattern forms on your own chart, on a closed bar.
  • Context and timing. Optional HTF structure, New York session windows, a bar-close timer and alerts.

A sweep and a real breakout look identical while price is through the level — our Liquidity Sweep guide explains the close-based test that tells them apart. That is why every step here is evaluated on closed bars.

Why traders use it

What it changes on your chart

Signals that stay where they printed

Arrows print on closed bars and stay where they printed. Nothing shifts after the fact.

Setups built on sweeps

Setups start from a liquidity sweep, the stop run our guides explain — the rest of the chart stays quiet.

Zones you can read at a glance

Order-block and FVG rectangles with midlines, HTF wick levels, the swept level of each setup and the liquidity lines.

A trade plan on every arrow

Virtual entry, stop, break-even, partial and final targets on every arrow, the targets in R multiples.

Prop-desk context

A panel with your target, maximum drawdown and daily drawdown limits, and alerts as you approach them.

Never miss the close

A bar-close timer, plus pop-up, push, e-mail or sound alerts.

Features in detail

  • Order blocks and fair value gapsMapped on the structure timeframe you choose, with their midlines, and drawn until they are invalidated. The Order Block guide
  • Sweep setupsSetups start from a liquidity sweep — the move our guide takes apart phase by phase. Two reading modes and an option to widen the net are in the settings; the precise rules are not published. The Liquidity Sweep guide
  • Armed setup lineA dotted line in the buy or sell colour marks the armed setup, labelled Buy armed or Sell armed, until its signal or its end.
  • Confirmation patternsThe arrow prints once a confirmation pattern forms on your chart. Each pattern has its own switch and its label on the arrow. The Fair Value Gap guide
  • HTF structure and wick levelsStructure read on a higher timeframe of your choice, independent of the chart timeframe. The day’s higher-timeframe wick levels, the swept level of each setup and the liquidity lines are drawn. Buy-side and sell-side liquidity, explained
  • Validation dotsA dot marks the candle that validated each order block. The layer can be switched off.
  • Session windowsICT killzones in New York time — Asia, London, London + New York, London → New York, New York — with the server offset detected automatically, or a custom window, plus settings per day of the week. Sessions and the Judas swing, explained
  • Virtual trade planEntry, stop, break-even, partial and final targets drawn on every signal: the stop from the setup or at a fixed distance in pips, the targets as R multiples. Stops and targets, explained
  • Prop-desk dashboardTarget %, maximum drawdown and daily drawdown limits, plus trades, win rate, profit factor and expectancy computed from your own account history. Prop-firm risk, explained
  • Non-repaint and alertsClosed bars only; arrows stay where they printed. Alerts by pop-up, push, e-mail or sound.

Getting started

How it works, in three steps

Install from the MQL5 Market

Buy, or start with the free demo — it appears in the Market tab of MetaTrader’s Navigator.

Apply it to your chart

Pick your structure timeframe, session windows, confirmation patterns and alert channels once.

Watch for the dotted line

An armed setup shows first; the arrow prints on the close of the bar that confirms it.

Honest fit

Who it is for — and who it is not

A good fit if…

  • Traders who want a focused order-block and liquidity-sweep workflow
  • Traders who want a sweep confirmed on their own chart before acting
  • Prop-firm traders who want their target and drawdown limits in view while they trade

Not for you if…

  • Anyone looking for an EA — it never places orders
  • Traders expecting guaranteed results or a guaranteed passed evaluation
  • Traders who want the complete liquidity map — that is Sweep Protocol

Sweep Protocol remains the fuller engine, with the complete liquidity map. The account / prop-desk panel on this indicator supports The Notorious OB’s own signals — it is not a replacement for Sweep Protocol.

What we do — and do not — publish

No performance claims. We do not publish win-rate figures, profit screenshots or testimonials on this site. Trading results depend on execution, risk and market conditions, and any number shown out of context would be misleading. What you can verify yourself: the MQL5 listing (reviews, updates and the free demo) and the annotated charts published across our guides.
FAQ

Questions traders actually ask

What is the signal?

An arrow on a closed bar, printed once your chart confirms a setup built on a liquidity sweep. Before it, a dotted line marks the setup as it forms — Buy armed or Sell armed. The concepts behind it are explained in full in our guides; the precise rules the indicator applies are not published.

Does it use fair value gaps?

Yes. Fair value gaps are drawn as zones alongside the order blocks, and a fair value gap on your chart can confirm a setup. Our Fair Value Gap guide explains what they are and why they matter.

Why do some sweeps get no arrow?

Because a sweep alone is not a signal: an armed setup can end without an arrow when the chart never confirms it. The tooltip of the dotted line shows how each setup ended.

Why are the exact rules not published?

Because the concepts are what you need to judge a setup, and those are public: our Learn guides explain them in full. The precise rules are the product itself — the free demo on the MQL5 Market lets you watch them work in the strategy tester, on your own symbols, before you buy.

Does it repaint?

No. Every step is evaluated on closed bars only, and an arrow stays where it printed — what you see on history is what printed live. HTF structure is read on its own timeframe, independent of the chart you are viewing.

Does it trade for me?

No. It is an indicator, not an expert advisor. It draws zones, levels and a virtual trade plan and sends alerts, but it never places, modifies or closes an order. Every execution decision stays yours.

Where are the stop and the targets?

The virtual plan draws an entry, a stop — from the setup or at a fixed distance in pips — a break-even level, and partial and final targets in R multiples. They are planning lines, not orders — and a stop you place with your broker is an instruction that fills at the next available price, not a guarantee.

How is this different from Sweep Protocol?

The Notorious OB is the focused tool: liquidity-sweep setups around order blocks and fair value gaps, confirmed on your chart. Sweep Protocol is the fuller engine, with the complete liquidity map. The account / prop-desk panel on this indicator supports its own signals; it does not replace Sweep Protocol.

Can I use it for a prop-firm evaluation?

It is decision support only. The panel tracks the target and drawdown limits you enter and alerts you as you approach them; it cannot enforce your firm’s rules or guarantee a result. Check your firm’s terms on indicators, news trading and how it calculates drawdown.

Is there a MetaTrader 4 version?

Yes. MetaTrader 4 has its own listing on the MQL5 Market, with the same detection and visuals. Use the button that matches your platform.

How do I install it?

Buy or download the demo from the MQL5 Market, open MetaTrader, and the product appears in the Market tab of the Navigator. Drag it onto any chart — no external file to copy, no DLL.

Are updates included?

Yes. The purchase is one-time and updates published on the MQL5 Market are free for owners, for the life of the product.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes. Every MQL5 Market listing includes a free demo that runs in the strategy tester, so you can watch the logic on your own symbols before spending anything.
